Pets of Waiheke

Pets of Waiheke was established through the Waiheke Collective as a community initiative to support responsible pet ownership while protecting the island’s unique wildlife.

The group provides information and resources for both residents and visitors, including:

• Practical advice on caring for pets in ways that minimise impacts on local wildlife

• Updates on Waiheke’s native species and conservation efforts

• Guidance on adoption opportunities and responsible rehoming

• A platform for sharing questions and information about pets on the island

Visitors to Waiheke with pets can also access advice on local pet-friendly businesses, as well as guidelines for enjoying the island responsibly while ensuring the safety of native wildlife.

By bringing together the community, Pets of Waiheke works to create a balance where pets, people, and wildlife can coexist on the motu.
